Job description

​

Virginia Blaze Athletics is seeking an energetic Athletic Coach to develop a competitive and representative team in the event to which they are assigned. In doing so, our Coaches emphasize developmental ideals of teamwork, leadership, character, athletic skills, and wholesome attitudes amongst teammates and sport participants.

 

Essential Functions:​​​​​

  • Works cooperatively with other coaches to ensure proper coverage for all athletes.

  • Works cooperatively with other Athletic Coaches in order to operate a well-balanced athletic program.

  • Directs the training, conditioning, and performance of the assigned sport event team and assists  Coaches in their efforts with the team .

  • Acts as a positive influence upon the behavior of members of his/her athletic staff and teams.

  • Engages and directs the team at all athletes  to be present at as many invitational meets or postseason competitions.

  • Advises the head coach in the selection and performance evaluations of officials.

  • Recommends to the head team coach the type and amount of equipment and supplies needed to conduct the sports program; Provides for the inventory and care of equipment.

  • Advises the head coach of the condition of athletic facilities and needs for their preparation and maintenance.

  • Ensures that all athletes have undergone and passed medical examinations before the regular practice season begins.

  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Education and Experience:

  • At least 1 year background in coaching track and field

  • Jumps: Background in long jump, triple jump or high jump; ability to teach jump techniques, drills, approach and takeoff

  • Throws: background in discus, shotput or javelin; ability to teach throw techniques, form and movements

  • running: background in sprints, mid distance or long distance; ability to teach form, approach, and drills

Required:

  • High School Diploma or GED

  • 18 years of age

  • AAU Background check and enrollment

  • One (1) year of coaching experience in the sport assigned

  • CPR and First Aid Certification or ability to enroll and successful complete a CPR and First Aid training course

  • background in coaching

  • ability to learn and take direction

Preferred:

  • 21 years of age

  • usatf level 1​

  • 1 year coaching in specific event applying for
